Attendance
Daily attendance is essential for student success and is required by law. Students should arrive every day on time and ready to learn.
Absences
Absences can be excused by phone or with a note from parents or doctors within five days of the absence. Absences not cleared within five days remain unexcused.
If a student is absent more than five consecutive days or has over fifteen excused absences for the school year, a doctor note is required to excuse.
Acceptable excuses for absences or tardies
- Student illness or injury
- Student medical or dental appointment
- Funeral of a family member. One day in California and three days out of state
- Court appearance
Suggestion If your student sees a medical or dental professional, please request a return note for school records.
Unacceptable excuses for absences or tardies
- Transportation issues
- Woke up late
- Sibling was late
- Personal fun day
All other reasons must be reported and are logged as unexcused unless listed as acceptable. After three unexcused absences, the district or county office may mail truancy letters. After ten excused absences, a letter regarding excessive absences may be mailed. Medical letters may be requested when a student reaches or exceeds fifteen excused absences.
Tardies
Tardies are disruptive to learning for teachers and students. Students should be in their assigned classroom by 8 15 am to avoid being marked tardy.
Any student who arrives after the bell must obtain an admit slip from the Attendance Office. Unexcused tardies may result in a lunchtime restorative conversation with an administrator or staff member about strategies to arrive on time.
Early pick up
Photo I D is required. Please bring it with you.
- Please call the Attendance Office ahead of time if anyone other than a parent or guardian will pick up a student. Students are not released until authorization is received.
- Staff cannot summon a student from class in the last fifteen minutes of the school day.
- The same excused and unexcused rules apply.
No interruption policy
To minimize disruptions, please avoid dropping off items for students unless it is an emergency. The school is not responsible for items left in the office and cannot hold money for students.
Independent Study contracts
If a student will be out of town for five or more days, an Independent Study contract may excuse the absences. Please allow a two week notice so teachers can prepare assignments.
